Big Santa Clara projects spur hiring for planning department

A spurt of big commercial and residential projects in the city is prompting a need for temporary building inspectors. The city's Planning and Inspection Department is asking for $450,000 to hire "contract or as-needed" staff, plus $100,000 for supplies, according to a staff report for the city's Oct. 16 City Council meeting.
